Got Scrivener?

We've discussed it before, but how's it going for those of you who bought the program and tried it out? Is it worth the time and effort? Or is it just another program...

I'm tempted, since I won't be in full writing mode 'til fall, and they have a 20% off sale through June 14th.

  1. I go back and forth with wondering if I should get it too. My mac is so old, I'm concerned it won't even work properly. And there's the part where I love writing by hand into my comp books, which are very portable--thru woods, pool sides, kid's playgrounds. That's the only way I was able to write my first novel length fiction with my kid's home all summer. I also like doodling, when my mind gets stuck or needs a break. Then at revision time I log on...if I get a new mac or my very own laptop one day, I will get Scrivener.

  2. Personally, I love Scrivener particularly for first drafting and plotting. I'd recommend trying out the free trial and deciding for yourself if the program works well for you. There are also loads of reviews online that spell out the pros and cons.

  3. Definitely recommend the free trial. If you do NaNoWriMo, you can get a discount if you win. It takes a bit to get used to new habits, but I'm so glad I switched. I love having everything in one place.

    Other things I love:
1)I can import critiqued work from Word and Google Docs. It formats it for you. Works best if saved in rtf
    2) The double paned feature is great while revising.
    3) The Inspector pane let you right notes in the side and keep track what is going on or if you have notes while you're working.
4)The compile is great if you want to export your files in epub or mobi format.
    5) Buy or borrow Scrivener for Dummies if you want to learn more features.

What can I say? I LOVE it!

  4. I tried the free sample and downloaded it right away. I don't know all the ins and outs yet but it helped me immensely in finishing and restructuring my rough draft!

  5. I purchased through the NANO discount and then used it with a screenplay for a contest. I loved it for that. I have just started to use it for a novel. I'm still learning all it can do. It is really an impressive tool. :-) And well worth the money.

  6. You guys are GREAT!! Sounds like it's worth the investment... and it's really not that expensive compared to other word programs...

  7. So far, I LOVE the corkboard feature to rearrange notes/chapters/scenes and the character profiles. There are so many features I haven't figured them all out yet, but I have nothing to complain about thus far.

  8. I'm using this for my first adult romance, and it's pretty user friendly. I know I'm not using it to the max, but even just the few features I use are nice. I like the organization of it. My favorite thing is the research folder. I can save entire websites, which saves me time when I need to reference a wikipedia page. :)
