In case you haven't heard, yesterday marked the first day of the open door submission for both Angry Robot and its YA imprint, Strange Chemistry.
Strange Chemistry is looking for all flavors of fantasy, science fiction, or horror, as long as it is YA. Find out more about the specific guidelines here.
Angry Robot is looking for adult Classic/Epic fantasy, only. Their guidelines are here.
The open door period only lasts until April 30th. So polish up those submissions and best of luck to you all!
If you are entering, drop a note in the comments.
Thanks for sharing the tip. Wish I had something to submit to them.
ReplyDeleteI submitted. Keeping fingers and toes crossed. =)
ReplyDeleteJust curious - do you think paranormal counts as a sub-genre of fantasy?
ReplyDeleteNothing to submit to them, but wishing those who do all the best!
ReplyDeleteThat's really great news for fantasy writers. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI don't think mine's a classic fantasy. I mean, it has dragons and knights and castles, but not in the way they're thinking.
ReplyDeleteMara, I think paranormal would probably be fine.
ReplyDeleteAldrea, it sounds like it would classify to me! They want new twists on the "classic" fantasy. What they mean is they don't want Urban fantasy or SciFi.
Had a second look at their guidelines: they've a 95k minimum. I know it says they can be flexible, but 25k words less?
DeleteI may just pass on it this time and concentrate on polishing just that bit more.
I just entered! thanks so much for the info. I would never have known about it otherwise. I'm eager to hear back- since they said they will respond to all submissions, I just hope it doesn't take a full 6 months- which they said it might. Oh well, either way. I feel like my query doesn't do my story justice, so I'm happy to send a synopsis and chapters, I feel I have a better chance than the typical query only that most agents want.
ReplyDeleteHi Amber. Not to burst your bubble, but if your manuscript does well, it might take longer than 6 months. It took 13 months for mine.
DeleteI submitted mine, too. Thanks for sharing, otherwise I wouldn't have known about it. Now I'll just forget it for the next few months... or year.
