THE HUNGER GAMES Movie: What Did YOU Think???

So. The Hunger Games finally premiered last Friday, and as of today, has rounded up a whopping 155 million dollars at the box office (holy bananas...). Which means a lot of you went to see it. And, of course, this leads me to ask y'all the following question:

If you saw The Hunger Games this weekend, what did you think of the movie??

Whether you loved it or hated it, squealed or cried or yawned, today's post is about your voice. Leave your awesomeness in the comments, and I'll be back throughout the day to read your reactions! :)

Thought it was very good; Jennifer Lawrence was awesome as Katniss. Loved the costumes, esp. for the Capitol, but was distracted by Wes Bentley's (Seneca Crane) awesome beard stylings.

Note: If you do go to see in in Imax, make sure you get there early early to not be in the third row. With all the swirly hand-held camera business, it's a bit too close to the screen.

I cried and jumped! I did love Jennifer as Katniss. She did a great job.

Another perfect example of how a movie saps all of the emotional depth and tension from a fine book.

I watched it with my wife, who has not read any of the books. I found myself having to explain what was happening and why far too many times during the course of the movie.

Jennifer Lawrence (who did a fine job in "Winter's Bone") seemed to have one emotion in all of her scenes. I had thought she would be perfect as Katness (there are many similarities between her character in Winter's Bone and Katness) and came away disappointed.

I came away from the film disappointed. I wasn't impressed with the story as it was presented, nor did I end up having any strong feelings for any of the characters -- quite the opposite from the books.

I personally thought it was quite fantastic. Jennifer did an amazing job as Katniss, and really all the actors were fantastic. What pleased me the most though was how true they stayed to the book.

I loved it, even though I had quibbles (I posted in-depth about it). I second the caution not to sit too close. I went twice and got queasy the first time from the shaky cam because I was close. Second time sat farther back and no problem. I thought Jennifer Lawrence was great and imparted lots of emotion in subtle ways. My biggest issue was that some of the "hunger" was missing during the games.

I thought it was well done! The filmmakers showed remarkable restraint in many scenes.

Great fun, overall! IMO, about twenty minutes too long. The casting was great. LOVED Jennifer Lawrence and Stanley Tucci, especially. It's really difficult to portray secondary characters with much depth in a film, and I missed that with Peeta's character, especially. Some of the scenes were much thinner than they were in the novel, for obvious reasons, but especially the TrackerJackers and Muttations. Although, I'm thankful it wasn't as violent as I was afraid it would be!

Loved the costumes and sets. Fun to see how it was all knit together and how the imaginations of the filmmakers play against your own.

I loved it. It's a movie so there is no way they can get everything in it that's in the book, but they did a remarkable job staying true to the storyline. Have to say my favorite scene was when she shoots the apple from the pigs mouth.

It got slammed over in Australia! I don't want to see it until I read the book. Um, yeah...I haven't done that yet! Son bugging me so, I'll have to get on to it!

Loved it. Wished Peeta was cuter (and at least as tall as Katniss), but otherwise very happy with what they did with the book. The ending scene almost made me Team Gale, my heart really went out to him.

I jumped and squealed when the "dog/wolf" came out. I was sitting there, knowing it was coming any second. My girlfriends got a good laugh out of it.

I really enjoyed it with the exception of getting nauseous from the film work. I thought it effectively catered to the PG 13 audience as well as the many adult fans of the book.

I loved it, thought the casting was spot on, going to see it again today :D I do think you should read the book before you go though, because they do have to trim some things and you just don't get all the mental stuff that goes on in Katniss's head (and let's face it, a LOT of what goes on, how they mess with her, is mental) :) We'll see how my husband likes it - he hasn't read the book yet.

I laughed and cried. Loved it. I agree with Michelle about Katniss's mental stuff. They didn't bring out how she felt about Gale watching what was happening between her and Peeta. Loved the casting, too.
