August #OABookClub

Why, hello, everyone! In July, we took some time off from the #OABookClub, but in August, we're back with a craft book every writer should read at least once:

“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon the publication of Stephen King's On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer's craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King's advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery. Brilliantly structured, friendly and inspiring, On Writing will empower and entertain everyone who reads it—fans, writers, and anyone who loves a great story well told.
Come back at the beginning of September to let us know what you thought of it!

We're not going to talk about it right now.

So what have you been reading this summer? Let us know in the comments!

  1. Well, I already read King's book, and it was wonderful. Meanwhile, what have I been reading this summer? I just finished an advance copy of Mark Noce's historical novel, Between Two Fires. It's a very exciting read, set in 6th century Wales in the post-Arthurian era. If you like historical novels, you'll like this one.

  2. I LOVE this book! (Of course, I'm a pretty big Stephen King fan). You are right that it's not just for writers wanting to learn craft. His rags to riches story is quite inspiring and is a reminder to never give up. What am I reading this summer? I just got done with Diana Erbio's "Coming to America: A Young Girl Struggles to Find Her Way in a New World" which was a great read for those who love history - takes place right after WWII. And I've just started reading Taya Kyle's "American Wife."
