#BookToFilm of The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle #atozchallenge

I have watched the animated film so many times. It is a close second after Disney's animated Beauty and the Beast because I am also obsessed with Beauty and The Beast. That needs like a month or year's worth of posts.

The Last Unicorn was written by Peter S. Beagle and published in 1968. The only film to date was released in 1982. There was talk of another film in 2006, but there are no new updates as of January 2022.

The story follows Unicorn, who believes she is the last unicorn, to go on an adventure to find the rest of her kin. She befriends a sorcerer who transforms her into a human in order to hide her from the bull who hunted unicorns.

Beagle continued to write short stories with characters from the original story in "Two Hearts," published in Fantasy and Science Fiction magazine in October/November 2005, and it was also included in the anthology The Line Between, published in July 2006.

The short story collection The Overneath included 2 Schmendrick stories and 3 unicorn stories.

Sleight of Hand, a short story collection published in 2011, also contains a Schmendrick story and the fate of a dragon from an early abandoned version of The Last Unicorn. In 2017, the novella In Calabria was published.

For more information about the film, check here.

When I'm in dire need of a fantasy story, The Last Unicorn is one of my go to stories.

What is your favorite unicorn story? Do you have a favorite Beagle short story?
